NIFPA is held at the Old Church Theatre
755 Harmston Ave, Courtenay, BC V9N 2X6 Please enter through the side door along the right side of the building. Drop in admission is $2 for friends and family. Performers do not need to pay if they are playing in that session, just tell the folks at the desk you are with FolkHarmonic. Our session begins at 7:45, so please plan to be at the church by 7:30, so that we can warm up, tune up and make sure we have everything we need for our performance, and then be upstairs to support the other performers once the session starts. If anyone knows someone that can film this discreetly for us that would be great (they get all funny about these things...) doesn't need to be pro, just something to remember it by!) Serena Eades is the adjudicator this year. http://serenaeades.com/index.html The plan is to go have a celebratory bevy, dessert and general good time at Corner Stone Cafe afterwards (where Zocalos used to be) Looking forward to this. ps. If you need to contact me the day of my phone number is 1-250-208-6873, text or leave a message as I will be at the festival most of the day supporting other students and will have my ringer completely off. I will get back to you as soon as there is an appropriate moment. As Requested: An Mp3 of Sugar Moon, at tempo de learno that follows our road map.

So, we're sounding pretty rockin' on a lot of our tunes these days. This week we decided that our festival set would be: Sugar Moon Real Midnight Ain't no Fun to be Alone in San Antone Over the next 3 weeks we're going to work on these 3 tunes as well as Teach your children. I'm considering adding in a Thursday evening rehearsal on Feb 2nd... for all of our groundhog day moments. We'll need a venue for this as my space is much too small to hold an Orchestra. So if anyone feels up for hosting it would be greatly appreciated. Alone in San AntoneCall & Response - We talked about doing a ladies/gents split in the verses for this one. I've attached a box chart below with colour coding on the verses. (green is an all sing). I also updated the lyrics on the final tag. ![]()
Improvising in this tune: Use your G Major Pentatonic Scale, and if you wish to add in the Colour tones that we went over last week (Bb & Eb) go ahead. Check last week's post for the worksheet. The solo breaks will be either 4 or 8 bars depending on what we decide to do with them. So come up with 4 go to riffs and you'll be laughing. Play them over and over and over and over and over, so that your fingers build them into muscle memory. Fiddlers: the Pdf below is 4 pages! it is all of the chords in this tune. when we are singing, you can strum the fiddle like a ukulele, using the "Strum Chords". I'll talk about how and where to fill, as well as how to build group fills at the next class. (Plus I'll have some examples that might be fun to put into our arrangement!) ![]()
Real MidnightPlease review your harmonies, lyrics and puzzle parts for next week. Don't worry about the arrangement, just work on getting the individual parts down. We will be re-arranging this one for our Festival Group.
Sugar MoonPlease review the harmonies, we'll spend a bit of time workshopping them next week, but if you spend some time working on the bridge section on your own things will rock through a lot easier. Vocal score & Mp3 are below, ![]()
